APPLIED DRILLING ENGINEERING

OBJECTIVES

The oil and gas industry world wide dedicates part of it resources to assure long term supply of its oil and gas. Effective planning, implementation of new technologies, application of successful drilling practices and utilization of “learning curve” are some of the strategies used to achieve the objectives. Drilling cost accounts for more than 65% of the total well cost and therefore, reduction in cost related to the drilling operations can have very significant impact on the total economic viability of oil/gas resource base. It has been shown in many situations that drilling costs can vary by more than plus or minus 50% even for wells drilled in the same geologic areas with some objective. The reason is that different organizations use different drilling practice some of which are more cost effective than others. If all operators implement only successful practices the variation gap will be significantly reduced along with the total drilling costs.

This workshop will address all the issues that impact on what is called effective well planning that include all drilling programs, needed information essential for successful drilling practices, analysis and diagnosis of information, safety and environmental aspects, learning (experience) curve, drilling problems anticipation and contingency planning for solutions, Round table discussion will follow each lecture presentation.
