CORING AND CORE ANALYSIS

OBJECTIVES
More than three-quarters of current additions to the world’s reserves come from better management of existing reserves. Core-based measurements offer the most tangible and direct means of determining critical reservoir parameters. Core analysis can play a vital role in field equity or unionization and its often considered to be the ground truth to which other measurements are compared, i.e. wire line logging. Using a multidisciplinary approach, participants are taken through the steps necessary to obtain reliable core analysis data and solve formation evaluation problems. Throughout the course, participants are given hands-on problem practical laboratory and field examples which reinforce the instruction. Pitfalls in the evaluation of core data and comparison of various methods of data collection in the laboratory are reviewed. Integration and use of core data in reservoir engineering, geo science evaluations, drilling and completion engineering and petrophysical calibration are emphasized. The final day is devoted to organizing a comprehensive coring and core analysis program for a major oil company where specific formation evaluation problems must be solved using laboratory data.
