COURSE OBJECTIVES
By attending this course, participants are able to broaden or reshape their knowledge on the related subjects of his or her area of responsibility, learn more detail about many aspects of the nature of water, different properties of raw waters, water and impurities analysis and its interpretation, internal and external treatment processes, roadmap of water treatment technology, equipment used and its operations, boiler feed water treatment, cooling water treatment, corrosion, fouling and scale controls, waste water treatment, biological treatment, waste water disposal, environmental regulation, discuss and consult their specific problems they are about to bring to the class, and share experiences with others.

- Typical characteristics of river, lake and surface waters
- Typical characteristics of well and produced waters
- Analysis and interpretation of TSS, TDS and dissolved gases
- Acidity, alkalinity, salinity, hardness, BOD and COD
- Heavy metals and hazardous chemical contents
- Organics, bacteriological matter and added materials
- Corrosion and scaling tendency indexes
- Industrial intake water handling, conditioning and pretreatment
- Treating objectives and roadmap of external processing
- Suspended solids removal methods
- Dissolved solid treatment and dissolved gases removal methods
- Sedimentation, coagulation, flocculation, aeration and filtration
- Ion exchange equipment and operation
- Roadmap of internal treatment
- Carbonate hardness and alkalinity control
- Chemical treating for control of bacteria and fouling
- Chemical treating for control of scale
- Corrosion control techniques and the use of biocides
- The use of surfactant and foaming control agent
- Corrosion and scale prediction, calculation methods and the use of scale index and saturation index
- Typical boiler feed water treatment
- Treatment with chelating agent chemicals
- Deaeration and oxygen scavenging equipment and operations, and condensate treatment
