OBJECTIVES

Participants gain the knowledge and confidence to function effectively at the well site. Emphasis is on the handling and description on cuttings and hydrocarbon show, presented in the full context of the borehole conditions created by the drilling operation. Responsibilities for real time, cost effective operation, operational decisions and reporting are also emphasized. The course deals with relationship between the well site geologist and rig crew, office staff, and other related personnel. The intent is to prepare participants for all the diverse demands of well site work.

• The Well site Geologist: roles, responsibilities, relationships
• Well Planning: Offset well drilling engineering reports, drilling fluid records, geology reports, wire line logs
• Drilling Rig types, drilling-strings, bits, casing, cementing
• Drilling Fluids: types, properties, function, basic testing
• Drilling Parameters applied to formation Evaluation
• Mud Logging Principles and Applications MWD
• Borehole and Related Drilling and Evaluation Problem
• Pressure: drilling generated formation, annulus: basic equations (subnormal to abnormally high pore pressure)
• Total borehole environment as Affecting formation evaluation
• Rock Drillability and Bit Generated rock Textures. Cuttings Sample: Accumulation, Selection, analysis, description
• Oil and Gas show quality control and evaluation
• Sidewall and Conventional core: field analysis and description
• Well testing: borehole quality vs FIT, RFT, DST quality
• Problem sets emphasizing Basic Mathematical concepts
• Final well Report: Text content, composite well lag service company final reports.
