Objective:

The course is intended for reservoir and petroleum engineers, geologists, and petrophysicists who are already familiar with the fundamental principles and techniques of core analysis, and who wish to expand their knowledge of the interpretation of core analysis data and its application to petrophysics and reservoir engineering calculations.

    • Fluid saturation and wettability alteration
    • Rock textural and mechanical property damage; clay damage
    • In situ stress and wettability restoration
  3. Porosity
    • Total and effective porosity concepts and models
    • Core porosity (ambient and overburden), pore volume compressibility
    • Core and log porosity interpretation and reconciliation
  4. Permeability
    • Core permeability measurements
    • Well test and log permeability estimation
    • Interrelationships and up scaling
  5. Water Saturation
    • Direct core measurements
    • Core data input to log interpretation (Archie and Shaly sand models)
    • Core and log data reconciliation (field examples)
  6. Capillary Pressures
    • Factors affecting capillary pressure; fluid contacts
    • Core measurement methods
    • Capillary pressure data correction; fitting and averaging functions
    • Log/core data reconciliation (field examples)
  7. Relative Permeability
    • Theory and definitions; data analysis methods
    • Laboratory measurement methods
    • Factors affecting relative permeability
    • Data averaging, normalization and application (field examples)
